Beautiful smaller pair of Plasma Agate Slabs, showing a tiny bit of red cinnabar. When Cinnabar shows up in plasma agate, it is also sometimes referred to Myrickite, first discovered in Myrick Springs in southern california; and named for Shady Myrick in 1912, an old California Desert Gold prospector. Cinabar (or mercury ore) in chalcedony, was something Shady looked for, because it is a good indicator for the presence of gold, and is a product of fossil hydrothermal springs that operated sometime in the distant past, in that area. Shady never struck it rich, but he will be remembered by us rockhounds! Unknown location, probably Clear Creek Calif. This rock came from an old Hollister, Calif rockhound collection.
