Amazing cell patterns thruout this slab of unidentified Fossil. From Daniels' book Ancient forrests, I see Dinosaur bone that looks similar to this, and it especially looks similar to Osmunda, an ancient Fern Family. Or, perhaps it is Palmoxylon Root structure. The stone came from an old Calif. Rockhound collection.
Whatever it is, It's absolutely Gorgeous, with incredible cells of varied shape and sizes. No cracks, pits or vugs. Its highly silicated and jasper hardness.
Those patterns that you see in the tan colored areas continue on thru the black area as well.
Weight: 3.5 ounces.
Size: 4.3" x 4" by 5mm thickes.
Photographed wet and dry, under a 60w lightbulb. Photos not enhanced in any way. |
