Description
This specimen is from the Chinle formation in northeastern Arizona, an area famous for its varied and brilliantly colored petrified wood. It dates back to the Triassic era and is of the extinct species of tree, araucarioxylon Arizonicum. The different colors are due to the different minerals present during the petrification process. It weighs about 3 lb. 1 oz and measures about 4.5 x 4.25 x 2.5". It was photographed both wet and dry in natural light. Photos 1 & 2 are side by side comparisons of the wet/dry photos. There are two clean bark sections with nice detail and there are also some picture lines. I can hold your order for up to three weeks.
