This specimen is from the Chinle formation in northeastern Arizona, an area famous for its varied and brilliantly colored petrified wood. It dates back to the Triassic era and is of the extinct species of tree, araucarioxylon Arizonicum. The different colors are due to the different minerals present during the petrification process. It was photographed both wet and dry in natural light. Photos 1 & 2 are a side by side comparison of the wet dry photos. It weighs about 1 lb. 8.5 oz. and measures about 3 x 4.75 x 2". It appears to be solid and should cut or polish one end. It has finely detailed light colored bark. I can hold your order open for up to three weeks. I am happy to combine items to save you money on shipping, should you win more than one auction. Please email me with questions. Thank You for looking.
