Quartzsite 2008
For all who have not made their pilgrimage to the rock Mecca of the world, I suggest you go. It was an overwhelming adventure. Although my sole purpose was to promote Dragonsaye Auctions, I still ended up spending way too much on rocks, some I had never seen and others that defined each category. I was able to meet the many voices I had been doing business with over the years, which is always fun. I bought some out of this world, Blue Mountain jasper, which in my opinion looks like Morrisonite and Bruneau Jasper got together for some hanky panky. I also found a hoard of old stock Mexican lace agate that looks very promising. This material was very hard, not chalky like some I have bought in the past. The list goes on from there: Sage Plume Agate, Butterfly Jasper, Imperial Jasper, Velvet Obsidian, etc.
Not only did I meet my previous suppliers I met some new ones which had a new variety of plume agate from Utah. It was an exceptional grade of yellow and red plumes mixed within a base of clear to blue agate. I can't wait to get all my rough in and start slabbing this material.
I would like to thank all of my friends and the friendly people of Quartzsite for putting up with me and my shenanigans. If I missed getting your picture, please forgive me as my last day was a blur and many people were either busy or unavailable.
For the best doggone Pulled Pork sandwich you have got to try Slims Pickins BBQ. Be ready to set a spell cause you are goin to need the rest after tacklin one of those HUGE sandwiches!
By the way when in Quartzsite look for the Best Mexican Food on Main Street for really great Mexican food and super friendly people.
I would suggest, if you plan to go next year, you should make your reservations now, there is only one motel in town and the next closest town is Phoenix, (125 miles away). The entire event is over 2 square miles through out the city, so pack some walking shoes. I started out walking to Desert Gardens from Tyson Wells; I was told, it was only a couple of blocks, after about a mile I asked a person for a ride. Rejected I continued, thinking to myself I will probably beat you there anyways.
